This is a fantastic little park with plenty of hiking trails and unbelieveable history as the oldest ceremonial mounds in the US. The visitor center has incredible displays, artifacts, maps, and helpful staff to answer any questions, as well as a small giftshop. Recommend taking the trail from the visitor center to the earth lodge, trading post, and great temple mound at a minimum. The park road also ends at the funeral mlund which is another great stop. But miles and miles of other trails that go down to the river and around the lesser known mounds.

Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park is a beautiful and peaceful place to visit. The park is well maintained, and it's a great opportunity to experience history while enjoying nature. There are scenic trails, fascinating archaeological sites, and plenty of opportunities to learn about the area's rich cultural heritage. Be prepared to walk, as there is a lot to explore. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and take your time enjoying everything the park has to offer. It is definitely worth the visit if you're in the area.

I actually consider this a must see! Great information lots of cool artifacts. This is a national park in Macon, Georgia! There's nice restrooms that are clean. They have a store you can bring a picnic lunch lots of room to Rome lots of things to see and admire. This is a free park to visit treat it like gold! Bring the whole family

Though there is the option to drive from site to site, we enjoyed walking the paths to explore the mounds. The staff and volunteers were all very friendly and helpful and the visitors center was great! We would like to try and make it back again sometime soon.

Enjoyed my trip to Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park — located in Macon, Georgia. It’s a beautiful prehistoric indigenous Indian site with over 17,000 years of history and its chief remains are major earthworks built before 1000 CE by the South Appalachian Mississippia culture. I saw the Great Temple, a burial mound, defensive trench and other ceremonial mounds. The site has evidence of 12K years of continuous human habitation. Nice gift shop and museum. Great place to walk around and explore the mounds (plenty of sitting benches are sprawled around the park). There’s also a few hiking trails and a small water pond nearby. Several school buses and many children were there during my visit. Beautiful well kept grounds — friendly, knowledgeable staff and clean restrooms. Very interesting place and worth the visit. Note: In order to see the mounds a bit of walking is required; you may think about wearing comfortable sneakers and a sun hat/floppy hat - walking pathways are not covered and it gets a bit warm in the Summer (South Georgia).

Free place to hike & learn about the extensive history & traditions of the Muscogee Creek Indian tribe. Even on a holiday, the museum and gift shop were opened to the public. There is a great film and several exhibits that show the way of life, eating habits, and ceremonial customs of the tribe that inhabited this land many years ago. A railroad line built in the mid 1800's split the Indian territory in half, destroying part of one of the mounds. In 1933 excavations began, & in 1936, President Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered that the place be protected. You will find treasures from the tribe's everyday life in the museum, & you can climb and look out over the mounds.

I was at awe with the mounds and grounds. The museum was pretty cool as well. Had many artifacts and native cultural displays. Very informative. I loved the arrowhead display showing the many types and date ranges. I really enjoyed my hike to the mounds and by the pond/ creek wildlife viewing area. I saw many birds and even a deer walking through the swamp. Being able to go inside a mound and see the actual remnants of the old floor structure was cool. A must visit if in the area. And it was free to visit

We went and saw the Ocmulgee Mounds a few weeks ago! This was actually my 2nd time visiting. The first time was in 2020 when the Mound that you can walk into was closed. It was AWESOME to go into it this time! The hike is also classic with views of the Macon skyline. It's a beautiful spot for pictures and there's a neat visitor center with bathrooms and a museum which was also closed in 2020. I am glad I came back! The first time I came with my 3 siblings, this time I came with my wife of 4 years, son, and little one my wife is carrying. I will be back!
